In Memoriam: Steve Fisher
December 20, 2024
Dear 成人AV community members,
We write with sad news of the passing of former University Historian and Library Associate Professor Steve Fisher on December 4, 2024.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts in History, Master of Arts in History, and his Master of Arts in Librarianship from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. He began his career at 成人AV as Assistant Curator of Special Collections at Penrose Library in 1977. After a long career as University Archivist and Curator of Special Collections, Steve stepped into the role of University Historian in 2012. Steve also taught courses on archives and rare books in the 成人AV Library and Information Science program.
After forty years at the university, Steve retired in 2017. Up until retirement, Steve鈥檚 articles on 成人AV history were regular features in the 成人AV Magazine, and he was often asked to speak to local groups about the history of the University. In retirement, Steve co-wrote with Thyria K. Wilson the book 成人AV, for the Arcadia Press Campus History Series in 2018. Steve was also deeply connected to the archival profession in the Rocky Mountain region as a teacher, mentor, and colleague, serving as Preservation Chair for the Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists.
Steve is remembered as a down-to-earth, kind, and highly engaged member of the community with an encyclopedic knowledge of the university. Steve and his late wife Katie, a longtime librarian at the Taylor Library at the Iliff School of Theology, were 成人AV and Denver sports superfans. Steve attended nearly every hockey game, women鈥檚 gymnastics meet, and many other 成人AV and Denver sporting events for decades. Steve鈥檚 enthusiasm often caught the attention of the Magness Arena cameras, and he was a mainstay on the jumbotron during hockey games. In honor of his tremendous support for 成人AV sports, Steve was recognized at the December 14th 成人AV hockey game.
Please join us in conveying our warmest condolences to Steve鈥檚 friends and family.
Sincerely,
听
